History of the Melville Fire Station

South-East Corner, Canning Highway and Murray Street, Palmyra.

The Melville Fire Station was manned and became operational on October 5th 1956. It was officially opened on 23rd October 1956. It closed when O'Connor Fire Station opened on 28th March 1973.

The papers and notes presented here were put together for a talk by Noel Stephens to a meeting of the Melville Historical Society held in the Melville Fire Station building on 6th June 1984.

Names to go on the brass plaque and arrangements for the opening ceremony. The Historical Society members had an interesting reaction to the revelation that no women were to be invited so that there would be no need to supply tea with the refreshments.
