From "The West Australian" -- 24th October 1956

At the touch of a button two wide steel doors rumbled upward at the entrance of the most modern fire station in the State as it came into official operation in Canning Highway, Bicton, yesterday afternoon.
The station, manned by two officers and nine men has a fire engine and two service trucks and a unique maintenance section that will service all private fire-fighting equipment in the district.
Total cost of the new station and equipment is thirty thousand six hundred and fifty pounds.
The Chief Officer for West Australian Fire Brigades (Mr. W. E. Gardner) said he believed that the maintenance section was the only one of its kind in Australia.
The station also has:
  • The first fully automatic doors which open as soon as the station alarm is sounded.
  • The first closed-circuit alarm system in the State. This eliminates guesswork in case of line faults.
  • A drying room for the firemen's uniforms.
The street alarm system is not yet connected but the Fremantle Fire Station will relay any fire calls.
